People want me to go out to jams, but I insist on going home to practice on weeknights (weekends I can practice during the day). It seems to me that if you go out to jam all the time and don't pay your dues at home alone, you'll end up a schlock player. What do you think?
Started to go through the Groove videos tonight-thanks so much Dave these are very helpful! I'm about halfway through & have learnt so much. This is the sort of information we really need to get us ready to play with other people-I was so overjoyed when I went to a jam the other week & the band knew what a 'flat tyre'was although I think some of the terminology is a little different maybe here in Australia. continue reading...

Last time we (SoftheB) played at the PHBistro, I experienced a lot of confusion, but I went home and sorted it out:
Problems:
--Equipment: Dan Echo Delay In Port Not readily available and no sign of it being hooked up to amp--seemed to me.
Vocal Mic: how do you get it quickly down to your size and make sure it's at the right volume?
What's a monitor anyway--David explained, but do we have one at PHB I can see?
Amp and mic: making sure they're at the right volume for playing and then for accompaniment. continue reading...
Aki's band won the Bay Area International Blues Challenge. They'll represent the Bay Area in Memphis this February for the finals. There was some stiff competition but they won. Congratulations! To Aki, Frank, Carlos, and Jon.
I've been a longtime Tascam Practice machine user. Starting with the CD-GT1, then upgrading to the MP-GT1, and then the DR1 which is what I use now.
I always wished my iPod could do the same thing. As it is I have to transfer everything I want to learn from my iPod to my DR1.
Well, there is now a FREE app for the iPod that can slowdown and loop without changing pitch. I'm checking it out now but I think it may replace my DR1 (which I paid about $225 for on sale).
One thing I like is you can name and save phrases. Very handy. Will be giving it a thorough workout shortly. continue reading...
I was just going through some of my issues of "Blues Review" Magazine and found some "Right on the Number" lessons that I'd like to work through. I couldn't seem to find the audio online tho? Is it still available somewhere?
Had a great time at the NHL event and it was good so meet Dave in person - as usual, the instruction was focussed, precise and full of lightbulb moments. Could only make it on Saturday unfortunately, but I'll definitely be going back again. Anyone else from Bluesharmonica.com go?
