Well, I'm closing the laptop and heading out of my hotel room to freeze my butt off on Times Square tonight (I can't believe my wife talked me into this again).

Everyone have a very happy New Year! I can't wait to see everyone's progress (including my own) in 2011!

As a New Year gift - if I see Ryan Seacrest tonight, I'll punch him for you. (come on, you know you want me to)

Happy New Year! Did you have

Happy New Year! Did you have fun despite yourself? I miss the cold with a down jacket on, down mittens, warm boots, a thermos full of nice hot drink. Hope you had a good time!

It was fun, in spite of being in pop music hell. The thermos was out of the question. No outside liquids were allowed in Times Square (along with any bombs, ammunition, or nuclear devices). Even our hotel was under lockdown. We stay at the Marriott Marquis, which is dead smack in the middle of Times Square. You had to pass through security on the way out the hotel door, and there were very strict time zones for entering and exiting the hotel (hence the reason we needed to get into the Square so early).

We came here ten years ago for the millennium celebration. That was one weird night. Everyone was so sure something terrible was going to happen at the stroke of midnight. You couldn't tell on TV, but when the ball hit at midnight, there was a short gasp and pause. It was almost like everyone stopped for a blink, then realized they were still standing - and THEN began to cheer.

Nothing like that for this year though. Just a lot of people and -- the great music of the newly constituted Backstreet Boys and the New Kids on the Block! *shiver*
