First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is Patrick and I have been interested in the Harmonica for years but never was anywhere that I could take it up and get lessons. This site has made that available and possible. So far I am really enjoying it.
I bought a Big River Harp in the key of C and of course was excited that I could play little songs such as Oh Susanna. But I did notice that I was not sounding rich and flowing. Now I know why. My technique was all wrong. continue reading...
Hi Dave! it's me Erich, one of your first students. haven't stopped playing since your lessons, but still haven't mastered it yet. I did some lessons from Howard Levy, and that has helped me tremendously, and now am back for some from you. If you dont remember me, I was living in the RV park in Morgan Hill. back about 1990. just wanted to say HI!
Do we have any other gals here learning harmonica? Nothing against you guys, but I have a tip I thought I would share for the ladies.
I have often wondered what the women pros do for lipstick when performing because most lipstick I would think would gum up the harps. I did a search on it and I only found one reference and it was a suggestion for Blistex Lip Infusion. I bought some and it is a good alternative to lip balm... it's a clear roll-on liquid which is not waxy or sticky... but it does not add color. continue reading...
I am a beginning harp student, currently working on my first lesson. This is the best go to website for harp I'm aware of. As a performing blues guitar player for 40 years, I'm excited that there is the perfect place for me to learn (and develop the best habits as a newbie) to play harp. I've been wanting to add a new deminsion to my music for a long time. I can't think of a better more fun way to do it!
I began playing harmonica by trying to copy licks from Sonny Terry, the only blues cassette I had at the moment. And there's nothing more enjoyable than hearing an awesome lick off a song and trying to repeat it.
I've been doing the lessons on this site for awhile now and realize that now I feel like I'm leaning more on the tablature and less on actually listening to the song. Once I've really learned the song, I don't need the tab and can play note for note as well as find freedom in improvising. continue reading...
Can anyone suggest a guitar instruction site that's as good as this one? My husband has been learning, but so far just using free resources and some DVDs someone gave him. I think he would prefer something that's not blues-specific because he really hasn't settled on a style yet.
I'd like some suggestions on purchasing a good small audio recorder that I can record on that I can also download what's recorded to the computer in that I might send it to David for critique. Also would like it to have the capacity to record 1hour (or longer) private lessons that I may reference back too. Hopefully something that records with decent sound quality as well. Price range $ 150.00 or less. Thanks in advance for your feedback on this.
