Joe's Journey

Joe's Journey made me think of "10,000 Hours to Mastery".
It's a subject Dave talked about in one of his "Tip of the Day" posts.

How far you advance on an instrument is directly proportionate to how many hours you invest toward 10,000 hours of practice.

It took some of these students approximately 15 years to reach 10,000 hours of practice

I'm not sure where else to comment or message Ryan but I just wanted to thank him for being brave enough to share his learning path with us. You have obviously been practising given the way you are playing and picking up on the lessons, especially the tongue blocking. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing you progress!!

High G and Low F harps...what does this mean?

Hi everybody. Bob from New Jersey here. Can any of you amazing harp players clarify something for me? What exactly are harps in the key of "high" G and "low" F? The guy at the local music store told me that "high" G is the same as Ab, and I'm pretty sure that's not true. He doesnt know anything about harpin.

Do I need these harps for my playing? Listen to Broke and Hungry from the Crucial Blues Harmonica CD. When I play that song, I can never make the solo sound like Billy Branch. Ronnie Shellist told me it's because he's using a high G harp, which I dont have. continue reading...

Interviews

I've had been through each interview when they came out. They all have some very valuable info. However recently I've visited all the interviews to watch the segments on improvising. Man did I get a bunch of info on that topic. I would highly recommend re-visiting the interviews often because as you progress new things will jump out at you that you didn't catch the first time.
