I was just on bluebeatmusic.com to see what was new out there and saw he was blowing out some great harp CDs for under $10. Below are the ones I recommend you pick up, especially at this price. Visit https://www.bluebeatmusic.com/ and click on "View All Sale Items" at the bottom.
I'm sure allot of you know his music already. For those who don't he was playing guitar, harmonica and drum with his foot in the 60s and 70s. The original one-man blues band.
I'm slowly working my way through the solo harp lessons and 'Quiet World' and would like to hear anyone's recommendations on good solo harp tracks, particularly ones that follow the 12 bar blues structure so I can fit ideas into what I'm already learning.
Hooker Rarely used a harp player when performing the song Boom Boom
Thats why I was trying to find a cut of John Hooker & Walter Horton
Playing Boom Boom on CD (The version in the Blues Brothers Movie)
But it doesn't seem to be out :(
I was relentless though and found a TASTY Hooker version under the title
''Bang Bang Bang Bang''
(Jeffery Carp on Harp & the CD is The Best of John Lee Hooker 65-70)
I Highly Recommend The Hooker & Carp Cut To Any Harp Player!
Below is the Movie Version with Hooker, Horton, Pine & Big Eyes Enjoy
(Not on the soundtrack CD) continue reading...
Do you have a MUST LISTEN TO top 3 songs for a beginning player?
Perhaps a very tasty player with playing that might be a bit easier to follow along with?
If you also knew what key harmonica is being played, that would be great. Might provide some good ear training as well.
After Dennis Gruenling mentioned Papa Lightfoot in his interview I went to BlueBeat to check out what they had. There was a CD with both Sam Meyers and Papa Lightfoot. I was all set to buy it but I thought I should check if I already had it. And sure enough I did. The CD is "Blues Harmonica Wizards" and has Papa and Sammy. It's jammed with great harp. The last cut by Sam is an instrumental named "Rhythm With Me". What a killer song. I've got to learn that one.
