I was just thinking about the bizniz of making components relating to LORD MICROPHONE fit the best they can, upping the efficiency of the various parts in play: GASKETING. continue reading...

While an old toothbrush can work wonders then it comes to dislodging particulates and grime from the connectors, fasteners, and grills of Lord Microphone, its powers are limited where mechanical fit is an issue. continue reading...

Got an email from a player/client/long-time friend in Arizona asking about remedies for the difficulty he was experiencing with the fit between two harpmic connector components. That's the inspiration behind this MIC MORSEL, tho I figured I'd expand upon the theme rather than make it a specific case study. continue reading...

OK, we know that a Mic's output impedance is determined by its ELEMENT/TRANSFORMER, NOT by its output connector. Knowing this opens-up all sorts of possibilities for microphone hook-ups. continue reading...

Ok, "miracle" might be a bit much. Perhaps I've been influenced by too much exposure to Rick Santorum. What I will stress is how very handy and practical these little guys can be. Found in any hardware store and coming in a wide variety of diameters and thicknesses, they can be incorporated into a number of fixes involving LORD MICROPHONE. From centering and buffering of output connectors (one of my faves) to their use as auxiliary gaskets for mic elements and grills, they could provide the answer when you need to cover a gap or take-up the slack.

Remember this when modding or monkeying with the component parts of a harpmic running a Controlled Magnetic or Controlled Reluctance element: It's important to make certain that the shell in which the CM or CR is mounted has no gaps, holes, or open passageways to the outside world. You know to seal all screw and brad holes, right? Bee's wax or a dab of silicon applied on the inside surface should do it. BUT WAIT! THERE'S STILL MORE! continue reading...

From the questions I get it's apparent that the confusion continues regarding the use of 3-pin XLR "professional" audio connectors on Harpmics -especially those mics built in the image of the venerable JT-30. All the Harpmics produced by ASTATIC, CTI, HOHNER, and OMNI-TRONIX that fit the JT-30 profile are -indeed- JT-30 kin. All the Harpmics produced under these names from the time the XLR 3-pin male connector was introduced and installed on 'em are HIGH IMPEDANCE units. Their XLR connectors are wired with pin #3 as "HOT" or "Positive" and pin #1 as "GROUND"or "Negative". continue reading...
