I have a couple marine band harmonicas with blown reeds , while looking on the internet I was surprised of the coast for screws and reeds. The question is - is it worth repairing the harps or just replacing ? How many of you do your own repairs? I have replaced reeds in my lee oscars but the hohners seem to take some effort ?
I am currently working with a manufacturer that makes horns for motorcycles and automotive. We were discussing horn tone. Their sales representative had made the following statement.
"The human ear prefers to hear harmony (two or more frequencies) and hence most passenger cars and some motorcycles will have two horns on them."
We use a low note disc (360HZ, @ between F and F#) horn on some of our motorcycles. For automotive applications that use this horn an accompanying high note horn (420hz, @ between Ab and A) is used which results in harmony and a much better tone quality. continue reading...
In the introduction to songwriting Gary Smith mentions an instrumental by Sonny Boy Williamson 2 on the Trumpet label. He couldn't place the name. From his description I believe the tune is called Cat Hop. Link attached.
It's time for me to buy a new harmonica. Could you recommend a seller?
Here is the problem. I ordered a harmonica on-line at Guitar Center in Santa Clara, CA. When I came to the store for pick up, I expected that the harmonica would be in a sealed cardboard box, but the box was unsealed, so I did not take the harmonica.
In a couple of other local stores they sell harmonicas in plastic harmonica cases, which are unsealed either. continue reading...
I was looking on this youtube and found a youtube subscription that some may enjoy. sQrin put a bunch of videos out in 2009 and free tab with backing tracks to some popular harp songs.
Downsizing some for an upcoming move. I have some of the Mel Bay books and a DVD from David's Harmonica Masterclass. All are in Like New condition. $45 for everything listed, with free shipping to the Lower 48 States.

Been working on various chord chugs to add to my playing. While I've picked up some here and there, and also came up with my own, I'd like to know if there are any resources to learn more chugging rythyms from.
i have been attending and learning to play at Blues Jams in my city, London Ontario, for a little while now. This is a logical step in applying what is being taught, and learned with David. Todays tip of the day is about accompaniment and volu me which I have really struggled with at the jams. I intend to apply today's lesson this evening. My curiosity then is how others are finding theor Mojo or groove at your local jams and is volume a challenge for other harp players too??
Feels to me that I am "slowly" progressing from "what to play" to "how to play". continue reading...
