I have been sitting in on shows and playing at open blues jams, and I am learning something very quick: it's a lot harder than I thought. I feel like I am prepared, but it's easy to forget all the stuff I have worked hard on. And if I can't hear myself, I have a hard time playing. I now realize how extremely important it is to do the improvising lessons at the end of each study song with the riffs that I really like. It would be cool to hear about others' open jam/sit in experiences.
I was looking at a website that sells combs and plates for the Crossover model and there are two types of comb listed. Long slot, and short slot. Other than the blatantly obvious, what is the difference?
I just watched the entire interview with Aki Kumar. I really enjoyed it. Aki is a charismatic guy that is fun to listen to. It really is inspiring and eye opening to hear how much work it really takes to be a working musician. I can't wait to make it to the bay area and go to his blues jam. It's really cool to see these guys on an interview, and then to meet them for the first time was incredible. I had a chance to meet Mark Hummel and also Adam Gussow, it was a neat experience after hearing about them on this site. I consider myself lucky to have these resources available. continue reading...
So I'm having the age old problem of not getting enough volume when playing with a loud band. I would say the band is about as loud as an average bar-band....maybe a bit louder than most. I prefer playing through a Bassman but even when miced through the PA I am not getting the volume I need. continue reading...
Besides what we can find online, are there any harmonica/blues magazines in print besides joining SPAH? I still love the feel of a magazine in my hand and being able to look at the pictures and read the articles without having to look at my cell or PC.
Maybe it's because I'm usinf my phone but I can't find the artist studies anymore. Wasn't there lessons based around certain artists? Where'd they go??
My name is Denis. I'm a professional guitar player, but I'm new here ) I started to play harmonica two weeks ago. I try to learn by myself with this site, but it isn't simple. We play a cover of Bon Jovi song "Wanted Dead Or Alive" and I want to play some solo on harmonica. Could you help me and tell what scale of harmonica I have use in this song and how to play this western sound in the intro of the song?
I've read, or heard, recently that as a beginner the harp I'm gonna get best on is the one I begin playing with, and or course play more often.. here's my question -
I've recently started and am still in tongue block study #1 - I bought a Special 20(in A) & 3 ProMaster Valved(in A & C & F# - the F# was too cheap to pass up)
My question is this... in MOST of your opinions, which are better harps?
