I've read, or heard, recently that as a beginner the harp I'm gonna get best on is the one I begin playing with, and or course play more often.. here's my question -
I've recently started and am still in tongue block study #1 - I bought a Special 20(in A) & 3 ProMaster Valved(in A & C & F# - the F# was too cheap to pass up)
My question is this... in MOST of your opinions, which are better harps?
What are you all doing with your LOA badges as you earn them? Mine end up in a drawer, which seems a shame since they are quite nice. It would be great to have a way to dispay them and add each one as they are earned; much like a martial arts belt display.
I picked up a special 20 in the key of C about 7 months ago, been noodling around on the thing pretty much every day since. I've gotten pretty good at playing just about any single note, 1st possition, pucker, song I could come up with, including some pretty good control over bending. However, it wasn't really the sound I'd really like to be making which led me back to this site. I came to realize that the sounds I wanted to make were really dependant on getting some control of my tounge and starting to tounge block. continue reading...
David and the Bluesharmonica.com community, I wanted to say again how much I value the lessons and particularly the current Tip of the Day topic on Blues Standards as it applies in a jam. I had the opportunity to play at the London Music Club (Canada) last night with Dan Bratz, Warren, Richard Miron, Wayne Mann and Rick Joyce whom are all local and fabulous musicians. Dan is a local excellent harp player and band leader (NoBones) whom mentors me with stage presence and applying the skills and techniques I learn at Bluesharmo continue reading...
I just got a blues harp MS-SERIES harmonica, and I'm glad to join the community !
The key of my harmonica is C, and I have started to read and to watch the videos on the website. It is specified that the lessons are designed for an A harmonica, is that a problem ?
I would like to know what people think of the following letter to David Barrett..." Any chance Mr Barrett would give some consideration to having a separate site devoted to lip pursuing with occasional requirements of tongue block?? From all my reading and your interviews it seems 90% of people started with lip pursuing and did just fine. No other site has your fantastic structure/lessons and I would hope you would reconsider and add lip pursuing as separate lessons." I personally think he would double the amount of players using the site.
The i7 lick ,I am tring to under stand this but do not know wate scale this I asume it is a G scale. I have a C harmonica book by James Major. On page 15 is the second position scales: G dorian, Gm pentatonic and G blues, so none of these scales is marked i7. I did find scales marked i7 for third position but I assume that we are talking about second position. So if some one could tell me what scale Mr. Barrett is refering to I would be thankful MX. continue reading...
