Guys when we play draw notes we have the "kha" throat sound that can keep our playing nice and sharp and rythmic. What about on blow notes?  We do have the slap, which helps a great deal but I'm af afraid I overuse it, which tends to make my playing sound a little sloppy and "drunken".

Try and listen to John Nemeth, Daughter of the Devil, from Blues Live. The opening lick is 5draw 4 blow 4 blow. He hits those 4 blows so hard and sharp. He's definitely slapping then but I hear more. It's almost a cough.

Any advice?

Same 'ka' or 'ga' as for draw

Same 'ka' or 'ga' as for draw notes. This is the same muscle as is used for the tremolo. You are right - it is almost a cough.

There will be some throat noise - how much you try to supress it is up to you and whether you think it's appropriate for the passage.
