Hi, my name is Alex and i have been into playing the blues since roughly 2000 when i stayed in NOLA for a few months and got the blues staying there. I ignored things for a while, thinking i had a better shot at making it as an author, but still the blues lived in me a little. So that when i did buy some harps some years ago, I was liked due to have that basis in the delta blues i picked up. I started taking things weriously when I bought a set of 7 hohners and played them wherever i went. Starting with playing them walking the dog with some headphones on and my mp3 player on full blast. continue reading...
Can someone please tell me how to play the lick John is playing at 2:08 in this video??? He's playing it in the second chorus of his solo, over the IV chord, Measures 5 and 6. I've listened a thousand times and I can't tab it out. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hello All, and huge thanks to David for creating this site! I have only just begun on the LOA and although having considered myself a long time serious student, this has been a beautiful and excruciating lesson in what I dont know. All these years playing to the greats and reading and listening everything with much study, all by ear, without the most important ingredient. Music theory! Ugh...A true life lesson in there. continue reading...

Much is said about Little Walter, and rightly so. But man, tune into Sonny Boy II. This guy played exclusively acoustic, as far as I know. Still, his tone is outstanding. It never gets old for me. And his licks are so catchy and infectious. You'll be humming them all day.

Every year SPAH bestows three awards to great harmonica players. If you’re a member, you can nominate someone. The SPAH board will then discuss the nominees and vote.

Guys when we play draw notes we have the "kha" throat sound that can keep our playing nice and sharp and rythmic. What about on blow notes? We do have the slap, which helps a great deal but I'm af afraid I overuse it, which tends to make my playing sound a little sloppy and "drunken".
Try and listen to John Nemeth, Daughter of the Devil, from Blues Live. The opening lick is 5draw 4 blow 4 blow. He hits those 4 blows so hard and sharp. He's definitely slapping then but I hear more. It's almost a cough.
