Ive been working with the harp for nearly two years and am doing okay in a number of areas. Ive increased my practice in the past 6 months and technique is improving. Bending, however, remains a mystery. And it looks to me as if bending is mandatory if you want to play blues....I get that. continue reading...
I think I just posted my Hohner experience in the wrong spot - sorry I'm a newbie to this site. I really wanted to share my experience so I'm re-posting here. Based on David's recommendation I ordered 3 Crossovers in the keys of C A and G. They arrived and the A harp was defective on the 1 blow. I called the company I ordered from and they said I needed to deal with the manufacturer directly and provided an 800 number. continue reading...

Ross Garren is the overblow advice columnist here at bluesharmonica.com. But he's also a multi-instrumentalist and a film composer. As half of the duo Sheriffs of Schroedinham with guitarist John Schroeder, he's got a new CD out (the second from this pairing).
Ross plays just about every type of harmonica known to man and beast, and manages to find creative ways to use them all. I've published a review at my blog, with some links to video and audio from the recording:
So I got this Hohner Special 20 and it's in key of C. I was watching the LOA videos but they are in a different key. Am I in the wrong section or is this website not for harmonica in key of C? I think the website is for all harmonica, but I am new to this instrument and I can't seem to find the LOA for key of C.
OK...I was playing about a month before I found BluesHarmonica.Com. I had a pucker-like embouchure to get single notes.
But then when I joined BluesHarmonica.Com I started practicing the tongue block. Now for about two months. At first I practiced both, but now do exclusive tongue block...
Today, I tried to do my previous embouchure and had totally forgotten how to do it....my quesiton...should I be trying to keep both embouchures or just totally go 100% tongue block?
Hello. I've been fooling around with blues harps for more than 40 years, but never studied it with any teacher, so I'm here on the 30 days free test that came with a new harp I bought today. I already knew that I have a lot to learn, so I will follow the LOA, but in the mean time, here is my first, maybe wrongly placed and maybe stupid question. continue reading...

Hi, all. I'll be in Vancouver, BC December 19-29. If you'd like to get together for an in-person lesson, please et in touch (email mynamealloneword-at-yahoo-dot-com).
Does anyone here hold the harmonica the way filisko describes in his Harmonica Insights Videos? I find it very ergonomic, and it solves the problem I have on the discomfort caused by the uneveness of my shoulders when holding the harp. The problem I have with his method, is that he says the left index finder and thumb should always be connected to the face when sliding up and down the harp. I find it impossible to connect my left thumb and index with my face when sliding up and down and his video doesn't show him doing and how it works in a clear manner. continue reading...
