SPAH 2018 awards - honoring the best harmonica players, teachers, and community members!
Every year SPAH, the Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica, bestows three awards on deserving recipients. If you’re a SPAH member, you can nominate candidates for any and all of these awards.
NOTE: Check to make sure your candidate hasn’t already won that award; they can’t win the same award more than once. continue reading...
I recently figured out that the artist performance pieces that David places at the beginning of most interviews is a great place to learn solo harmonica ideas. I pieces that I am working on now are from the solo by Mark Hummel, as well as the full solo by Annie Raines. I may be late to the party, but I stumbled upon one of David Gruenling's websites - badassharmonica.com
Among other things the site has to offer, are biographies of many of the harp greats. He also offers a recommended discography with comments for each player.
For anyone unaware the Special 20 cover plates are razor sharp both front and back edges. When working on /disassembling them for cleaning or gapping treat as if a razor blade.
I was curious how much time people need to move from one LOA step to another. And because I have some data processing skils, I computed that. Here you go:
Each bar in the chart shows average number of days between consecutive levels. The chart is based on David's posts to the LOA Awords sections of this forum.
