King of the Chug

Is it just me, or has anyone else been thrown into a sweaty panic by the competition? It's ridiculous: every time I think about it I come over all husky and brave and hear a voice - possibly David's - telling me I'm somehow letting myself (and others) down if I don't come up with something in time. That leads to a couple of despairing hours of chugging, where I come up with an idea, reject it, come up with another one, reject that ... and on and on. Just can't seem to find many solo harp instrumentals for inspiration - can anyone list any I can listen to? I need ideas!

Just watched the latest news vid and I have to comment on Dave's commitment to the cause. I know he's on commission from all the subs here but I sometimes have to slap myself as to how good this instructional site is! My playing is coming along in leaps and bounds and I just want to give a MASSIVE heads up to Dave and everyone involved in bluesharmonica.com. Thanks again guys and long may this truly fantastic site continue!

loop 10 of each chorus--make MP3 learning easier

> Hi David
> I am having difficulty learning the middle and ends of songs. I would like to suggest an improvement, that would greatly help me and other players.
> If a song has 7 choruses. Then I usually learn the first three great, using the MP3 tracks but the rest are difficult because I have to listen through the first tracks that I already know again. So here is what I suggest if a song has 7 choruses, then make 7 separate MP3 elements e.g. chorus1, chorus2 etc. continue reading...

David McKelvy's "Blues Harmonica Collection"

G'day, i'm wondering if anyone here has experience with playing from the transcriptions in this book. I've seen it in the background of some of the videos here. It has good reviews on Amazon, but i get the impression those reviews are from people who haven't actually used the book, i.e. they are super impressed with what it purports to be, but haven't played anything from it.

Hair of the Dog

So I'm at the jam and when I pick up my C harp (the second time in the set), the 1 hole is jammed!! No sound draw or blow. Luckily I packed a spare harp, picked it up and finished. Got home and took the covers off, 'plucked' the reeds on the 1 hole and then when I tried it again, no sound. Looked more carefully and found a hair stuck in the draw reed. After I carefully took it out, all was well again. continue reading...

David suggests that we all do a six-month tour of learning the drums, guitar, and base, just so we know how to communicate with the band. I say, we should all do a six-month tour of what good blues dancing is, even if it's lecture and demonstration. continue reading...
