Is it just me, or has anyone else been thrown into a sweaty panic by the competition? It's ridiculous: every time I think about it I come over all husky and brave and hear a voice - possibly David's - telling me I'm somehow letting myself (and others) down if I don't come up with something in time. That leads to a couple of despairing hours of chugging, where I come up with an idea, reject it, come up with another one, reject that ... and on and on. Just can't seem to find many solo harp instrumentals for inspiration - can anyone list any I can listen to? I need ideas!

lighten up, jordan.
try not viewing it as a competition.
playing music should be fun.

i'm sure something will come to you.

fun lol

fun ill have fun when im dead music hasnt been fun sence i started 18 years ago with the guitar,Its a curse to want to be able to do something so bad and after hours and hours and more hours of trying you still aint happy with the results.but the competion well what ever happens, happens im not worried about that,Im far to obsessed with every other aspect of trying to learn to play something i can really appreciate,on harmonica,or guitar,or bass or what ever.Fun i wish.

Good morning, harpers! Tom Ball here, just checking in to say hello and wish you all the best of luck with the chug competition. David, Joe, Madcat and myself are looking forward to hearing all the tunes from y'all. If there's any advice I could impart, it would be to just have fun with it -- there's a reason people say, "Let's play music" (and not, "Let's work music.") Cheerio and good harpin' to all. --TB

Rick Estrin "Getting Out of Town"... he's up on you tube doing this one for Richard Sleigh. Sonny Boy 2 "Bye Bye Bird" Also on you tube (and no you don't have to play the harp with your nose). Joe Filisko plays a medley of DeFord Bailey on you tube. I can't think of any more but when I do I'll post them.

Good Luck!
Jon

PS: I'll conquer to just have fun. Just put a big smile on your face and knock it out... we're all learning.

That's great... that's the whole idea. Yes, one submission per student... though you can post as many as you like on "Share!"
