After reading the "safety instructions" that came with a new harmonica, as well as David's advice about possible over-stressing of reeds (due to blowing/drawing too hard), I am wondering how often some of you have had to replace a reed plate or entire harmonica? I realize that there would be a lot of factors which would affect this, such as how often one plays and for how long, the previously mentioned blowing too hard and other such things. So, I'm just wondering about some of your own experiences.

I took my A Harp apart for cleaning yesterday as it was gummed up. I put the reeds in a weak vinegar solution, rinsed it fully, re-assemled and find I can no longer bend anything. It draws hard now too. I cant see any kind of problem.
I'm not certain if this is the place to do this, but I wanted to say "hi" and introduce myself before diving in too deep into the forums.
My name is John I started playing at the harmonica in the '60's with a Marine Band. My dad had always played when I was growing up. He had a 64 Chromonica that he'd saved up for when he was in high school (around 1939-1940) and he carried it through WWII in the Pacific theater. I still have that harmonica, though the wood split and compromised much of the middle of the harmonica, but I purchased a new one probably 15 or 20 years ago. continue reading...
A year or so ago I went to a local jam to try a couple of songs. It went ok. I didnt make any one cringe but Im sure it was pretty typical performance for a newbie. This past weekend I went back with a small repertoire. Got my mojo working,Sweet home Chicago, I asked to start the set with The study song My blues. After that we Did Sunnyboy's Help me. continue reading...
I am not trying to be impatient, but how long should I reasonably expect to take to be at a point where I can join a band and begin gigging. i am on level one of level of achievements.
Recently finished lessons on Dynamics. Powerful concept. Well worth the time and effort. I especially enjoyed the the "chemistry" and varied salient points by both Dave and Gary in the last section of the lesson. Thanks Dave for another tremendous lesson. Mic
hey guys, just wondering what's everyone favorite note and in what key.
Why I ask? Simply to find more cool sounds on the harp I might have missed.
Personally I absolutely LOVE octaves, specifically hole 1 and 4 on my g harp. It sends shivers down my spine hahaha. I try to sneak it into almost everything I play that I think will sound cool with it. Add a tremolo to that baby and it's pure cotton candy for the ears!
looking forward to hearing about your favorites boiz or gurlz.
