Saw this last night on Prime. It's a feature-length documentary on Paul Butterfield and his various blues acts. It contains interviews with many of his contemporaries and even his ex wife and his son. I thought it was excellent so just wanted to pass it on. Well worth the time.
I am actually emabrassed to post this. But it is bugging me so much today.
I have played a C Harmoanica for 6 months and have just a day ago started practing with an A. I dont know why but my 3 blow just feel so much harder to play comapred to my C harp. It feels as if i need to ensure a better flow of air, like there is less leeway.
I dont know. maybe its just one of those days. thanks

Id like to be able to play along with some of these. I have TABs for St Louis Blues in the key of C. Id like to find a jam track to fit. When I look at the web I see a few. Most do not state what key they are in. Others are in different keys or just make no sense for other reasons.
Is there any way to identify what key or just trial and error? I realize I can change key using a software tool like slow downer or Anytune.
I recently started trying to play the harmonica and also started feeling very nausious shortly afterwards but I didn't put the two togehter until I did a search to see if the harmonica could cause it. I have had GERD for years and it is under control and I can't remember feeling like this except the time I was not taking medication (at least 30 years ago). I play sax and clarinet in several bands and never had a problem. One post I found from a long time harp player suggested he had no problem for years until he started using throat vibrato ( I think he meant tremolo). continue reading...
I am about 6 months in to harping and would like to check out some live harmonica players. Nothing big, just a local bar, club, coffee shop or whatever. Does anyone know of any spots near Los Angeles County or San Gabriel Valley where I could go? Everything I find is either North CA, San Diego or out of state.
1 month ago I bought myself a Chromatica, a 270 Deluxe Hohner, and a method book by Max de Aloe. At first, I was enjoying myself learning it, I could from the start play it quite well because of my training here in Blues Harmonica, but quite rapidly I lost interest in it. I just don't have fun playing it because of its timbre and the kind of music it's used for. I don't know exactly, but the timbre is too clean to my taste, almost like a flute, and all the songs inside the book don't have that swing driving feel of Blues. continue reading...
