Harp Ninja - many holes play sharp

I'm trying the free version of Harp Ninja before purchasing it to help with bending. I've noticed that many holes (especially blows) indicate I'm playing sharp (about 25% on the circle). Most of the low draw notes indicate I'm right on tone, which seems good, but given a beginners tendency to play them flat, it makes me wonder if they too are skewed to the sharp side. Similar results  for both my C and A harmonicas. Have others experienced this? Is it simply my playing? a microphone issue (i'm using cheap cellphone earbud/mic for now)? or some other setting I haven't uncovered?

My real concern is whether this will complicate using Harp Ninja to learn bending. I don't have a great ear for the bent tones yet, and don't want to "mis-learn" them.

Thanks.

Harp Ninja

Hello jakjak,

Mine too tend to play sharp on the blow notes but closer on the draw notes. It doesn't bother me but you could check out Mr. Kinya's forum on how to tune your harps. As for Harp Ninja I use it everyday it's indispensable for learning bends especially on the 3 hole. Good luck!

Thanks Sanshinboi. It's good to hear it's not just me.

Hey Jakjak,  I don't think

Hey Jakjak,

I don't think this is an artefact of the pitch recognition algorithm but I'll run some tests to make sure.

They may be sharper because there is a tendency to blow harder on the higher notes which could lead to forcing the notes a little above pitch. I'll run some tests on this too (blow force) to see.

Thanks for the report.

Thanks Paul

Thanks Paul for checking into this. I was pretty sure it wasn't HarpNinja, so didn't report it to them. But I'll be interested to hear what you discover.

FYI I went ahead and purchased HarpNinja anyway, and it's proving very useful as I learn to bend.
