From time to time (and in lessons and comments) David has cited some interesting books that deal with learning and practice. I've read a few of them, and recently these intersting ones:
Every Good Boy Does Fine: A Love Story, in Music Lessons, by concert pianist Jeremy Denk. (Random House, 2022) Denk was a child prodigy, and really gets down into the theoretical weeds talking about dynamics and structure in various classical pieces. But his takes on practice, stage fright, performance preparation, etc., apply to any instrument or style of music. continue reading...
Today I wanted to find a list of grooves to help me identify the songs I'm putting together for the June repertoire retention exercise and found this book: Blues Jam - 40 Progressions and Grooves: Sit in and Solo with a Professional Blues Band! continue reading...
I'm trying to transcribe all of big Walter's solo on skip it, off his can't keep lovin' you album. I'm using a standard c Richter tuned harmonica because I think the song is in Dm. Some of the parts I play sound right but just a little bit off, I don't know if it's because I'm using the wrong harmonica or just not listening well enough. continue reading...

A friend of mine who is a professional musician suggested doing "practice performances" to get experience playing in front of an audience.
A great way to do this is by creating a Facebook Live event in the future or just going live on Facebook and playing, say, study songs to jam tracks.
But I don't see a way to allow the audience to hear the jam track I'm playing. I do use software called Feedback Loop, which (for example) allows Dave to hear the jam track I'm playing on my end during our Skype lessons, but I don't see a way to do this with Facebook. continue reading...
Does anyone in here have some tricks how to figure out the tabs of very fast played songs?
I'm working on the tabs of Life's like a Mountain Railroad from Buddy Greene but he plays it that fast, I don't have an idea how to hear one clear single note or even a whole lick
It would be very helpful if you'd share some tricks or tools you'd recommend for finding the tabs
