Hello. I am new to the world of Harmonicas. I have just started the lesson and it says I will need A Harmonica. Everything I have heard until now is to get the C because it is best for beginners. So, I bought a C. Does this really matter? Am I over thinking?

Thank you for your help.

Ask David

Post this question in the "Ask Instructor David Barrett" thread in this Forum. He has a really good explanation, and a link to the beginning lesson that uses a C harmonica (https://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/c_harmonica_intro_lesson), a lesson that, if you're new to harmonica, will keep you happily busy for a few weeks.  Look for the the C lesson on this website to get started, and be sure to review all of the introductory stuff that's here. Starting on a C is fine, but if you stick with it, you'll learn why certain songs work best (or were originally recorded) using other keys. And why most of David's lessons early in his sequence use an A, but as you advance you'll also want a G, a D, maybe a Low F, etc. Beginners sometimes are baffled about the different keys thing, but even for an advanced player, as few as five or six different keys of high quality harps will get one through most performance situations, and still cost less than a good saxophone or trumpet. Welcome to the wonderful world of blues harp.
