Greetings Blues Harpooners,

I just joined the site today, and thought I would share a tune that I wrote for the "Chromatic King", Original Blues Chromatic Instrumental Songwriting Contest by BluesHarmonica.com and Hohner Harmonicas.

The blues genre is one style in the world music spectrum that certainly has respect for the harmonica, given its intimate historical contribution.  The soulful expression of the voice-like cry of the blues harp, really resonates with almost everyone. continue reading...

A cover we did with a friend, Eero Turkka, who plays the guitar and sings in this classic piece. The recording is done with iphone :-) We are still perfecting the performance.

Bad Bad Whiskey

A one take bedroom recording of a classic, inspired by the Buddy Guy and Junior Wells cut. Quite sparse with just bass, harp and vocals, it's a new trio I'm toying with. The bass player also uses stompy foot pedals to add percussion. Would love to hear some feedback!

Gary's Blues

This is my first time sharing a recording.

This is Gary's Blues using a Green Bullet and a small 10W Fender Amp recorded on my iphone and mixed with Audacity.

At my level the song was challenging to learn, especially timing of triplets. I have it close but perhaps not perfect yet but I thought I would like to share and welcome comments from the Bluesharmonica community.

Thanks,

John

I don't play - Rod Piazza rendering study.

Hi there,I wanted to see if what I'm learning here has bettered my skills in a different playing context. I asked myself "what I would like to play and how I would like to play?" I started to look around and picked up this song that I like much. I focused on Rod solos trying to play in that way. I know there is an ocean between me and "the master" in terms of experience and technique but I had to start from somewhere. I didn't sing the song (maybe in a future), so i played all the singer parts doing an effort to keep them simple.Hope you enjoy.
