Aces Rob,

Top-notch stuff all around. This tune should be on side A with "They're Red Hot" on side B of your promo 78rpm. I know they're my two favorites.

P.S.

The growling effect is one of the best I've heard, therefore I have some questions.

1) Are you blocking or l purse the effect?

2) Is the effect as simple as saying R with like a gargle?

3) Where's your tongue, behind the front teeth?

4) Are you using hand effects on top of it?

Sorry for being such a pest but I must cop it from you & make it mine too. :-)

Thanks for the compliment

Thanks for the compliment Skool! To try and answer your questions:

1) I think I am mixing the 2 embouchures and using both. This tune is in 12th pos (key of F on a C harp), the root note being the 2 hole draw bent down a whole step, and I find that sometimes I can hit the bends easier one way or the other depending on my mood! in this case I was messing about with both ways throughout.

2) After trying to analyse what I am actually doing for the effect I would say that it's a bit like imitating a purring cat sound with the soft upper/ rear part of my tongue fluttering on and off the roof of my mouth. it seems easiest to do on the 3 draw, perhaps because of the position of the tongue for bending purposes, and it's harder, but doable, on the 4 and 2 draw. i can't really work it on blow notes either as my purring seems to come out too rapidly.

3) As mentioned above it is sort of pressed up towards the roof of my mouth to enable the fluttery, purring thing that I have going on.

4) plenty of wah wah hand usage all over!

Hope that helps! I'm still working on the effect myself and thinking of toying with the old toilet roll trick as an alternative to hand wah's to give a real visual muted trumpet look.
