Hi David,

I love the tune you're doing in the Cub10

testing. Is there a note for it somewhere

on the site?

Thanks Ga

Hi David. I was watching Sharon's lesson number 4, and you were teaching her the flutter. Is this a LOA 2 skill, or will it be presented at a later time?

Scale degree of chord

Just a quick clarification

In Music Theory 3 we get into triads and chords

Im a bit fuzzy in what you mean by Scale Degree of the Chord (Page 4).  Does that begin with the Root and move up through the 7th scale degree?  So in key of C, C is Root, D is second scale degree of the chord?

TB blow bends

This is impossible.  While puckering I can nail all my blow bends quite easily, even on Eb harps (haven't tried high F).  I jut push my tongue forward and rigid, and bam!  But can barely move a note while tongue blocking.

Vibrato?

In Accompanimwnt Study 2 (LOA 2), Long-Held Root Notes, you suggest to play " a nice vibrato" on each held note.  Should I jump to that particular lesson to learn vibrato, or should I wait until it comes up later in due time?

Also in LOA 1 Solo Harmonica Study 1, Do we at some point revisit Section 2-Bass Lines?  (I might have asked this already)

notation question

The notation for a shake and a flutter looks identical.  On the "Notation Key"  you say there is no second note for a shake.  I am not clear on what you mean by that.

Thanks

Practice focus for level 4 players

Hello David,

Im making my way through level 4 but am beginning to feel a bit unfocused.  I try to practice an hour a day but unlike when I was a true beginner there seem to be many more skills to be aware of and to develop.  I still need work on technique, breathing, speeding up bends and Im only only at the basics of much theory (chords).

How would you see students at my level allocating time over technique, theory, scales, movement, bends, licks and memorizing vocabulary?   continue reading...

Hello Mr. Barret ,

Can we play different scales in one harmonica and why does each harmonica have a different scale ?

eg : A harmonica , C harmonica etc.

Can you please tell me why ?

Improvising fills

Dear teacher,

when I practice my improvisation and add fill, I often lose the beat just before the chord changes. I noticed that my fills are pure improvisation without any structure. do you think I should change my approach and use only piece of licks that I learned in previous songs?

Hello Dave,  I am working on LOA#8 and practicing blow bends.  Your opinion please: Which lessons should I start first?   First position or Third position.  Thanks
