I have almost got this exercise learned to submission standard but I am running out of breath from bar 9 onwards. There are a lot of draw notes in the last 4 bars and I am finding that my lungs are uncomfortably full when I play the final bar. How would advise dealing with this?
I have tried doing a major exhale before playing the first bar but this doesn't seem to help.
Dave. It feels like I’ve been working on Level 4 forever, but I also feel I still have a very long way to go. I’ve gotten through 2 study songs (Gary’s Blues and Take It Easy Now) and as you know, I’ve also completed Improv Study 1 Chorus Forms AAA and AAB. In addition, I’ve also spent time on Solo Study and Movement Exercises. At this point, I need some advice on how best to approach the rest of Level 4? Should I go through the lessons one at a time (perhaps, in the order in which they’re listed) or should I work through the remaining lessons simultaneously? continue reading...
I recently followed your lessons on the above and have started using MuseScore?, I presume you use that now since Finale seems to have gone. Have you found a way in MuseScore to replace the chords with Roman numerals, as described in Ear Training Study 3?
All caveats about "use what works for you" aside: Should a student strive to lean less on Tab in favor of notation as they progress? The only ambiguity I see using notation alone is 2 vs 3+.
BTW I'm not sure if it is your convention or if it came before, but notating all harps as if they were in C is a brilliant solution to a complex problem.
Hi David! I'm onto level 3 and doing the Ear Traing. The song Give Me Time is def different! Not typical 12 bar blues changes. In Key of D Monster Mike seems to stick with the i chord for 8 bars and if you try the iv chord root on bar 5 it doesn't sound right at all but it sounds fine on bar 10. I thought it was better with key of G at first. The iv root on bar 5 fit but the it wasn't so great on bar vii and the v root wasn't right on the turnaround. The D scale fits and so does our Temperature solo in key of D. continue reading...
Just wondering — in the pull technique, can the single note be a blow note while the accompanying chord is a draw chord, or the opposite — a draw single note with a blow chord?I noticed this in example 2.1, section 2 (“Bass Lines”).
I´m new...so allow me this question: sometimes - even on this website - I hear "first position"/"second position" and so on. I cannot find information so please explain it to me, what this means (I found the chart with five positions....)
