Hi David! I'm onto level 3 and doing the Ear Traing. The song Give Me Time is def different! Not typical 12 bar blues changes. In Key of D Monster Mike seems to stick with the i chord for 8 bars and if you try the iv chord root on bar 5 it doesn't sound right at all but it sounds fine on bar 10. I thought it was better with key of G at first. The iv root  on bar 5 fit but the it wasn't so great on bar vii and the v root wasn't right on the turnaround. The D scale fits and so does our Temperature solo in key of D. I think its an 8 bars blues but the only time the iv root sounds right is bar 6, however a 3 draw bend half step(minor 3rd of the i) sounds ok in any of the first 4 bars but not a 3 draw which makes no sense to me because its the 3rd of the i. The 3 draw bend half step could also be part of the iv if it was a dominant 7th or minor 7th maybe? I went down a rabbit hole and I think I'm getting way ahead of my level! LOL! What's going on here! I'm so confused but at least I'm thinking!!! LMAO!

Adding question about "Give Me Time"

Hi David. Adam has geat questions. Re the form, here's what I'm hearing. Let both of us know if you're hearing the same thing.

8 bar, key of D

Two bars on the IV7, two on the I, one on the V7, one on the IV7, one with two eighth-note triplets on the I and then two eighth-note triplets on the IV7, and then ending on the eighth bar with one of those "wham" downbeats over the V7 followed by three beats of rest, i.e., a break.

Or sorta' like: / IV7 / I / V7 / IV7 / I - IV7 / V7! - - - /

One thing that seems to make it a tad hard to hear exactly what's going on is that over the IV7 chord, Monster Mike slides up and sustains a high D, i.e., the fifth scale tone in that chord, then brings it down before hanging on the F# (major 3rd of the I chord) and then G (root of he IV7 chord) before resolving on an A (root of the Vy chord). Playing that high D against the IV7 chord in the first two bars establishes the mood of the whole song. (Tho' the way the band breaks and lays out on the final three beats of measure 8 while Monster Mike does the pickups, and the way he doesn't play the first note of the first triplet in bar 7 gives the groove a nice feel, too.)

Thanks!

Hey Adam (and Rob). Yes, an 8

Hey Adam (and Rob). Yes, an 8 bar. As Rob stated, IV IV I I V IV I/IV V, with the intro of the song being those last two bars (I/IV V). So... two bar intro... then the 8 bar form. Give this a try Adam.
