I just ordered a Crossover and a Manji today from Coast to Coast. David and Joe Filisko are pretty up on the Crossover I know. And several others on the site like Slucey and Winslow Yerxa have a lot of good things to say about the Manji. I thought about ordering a Seydel 1847, too, but I can't get used to the idea of stainless steel reeds (even though Hummel is a big proponent).
I thought I'd give the two a good side-by-side. The only thing preventing a true side-by-side though, is the limited availability of the Crossover. I ended up with an "A" Manji and a "Bb" Crossover. continue reading...
Wow! What a show from Florida tonight. Mark and The Blues Surviviors will do another show from Key West tomorrow night. Mark said the sound check is at 5:30pm EST. Tonight they started at 5:00pm PST. Here's the link.
Just a quick note that Fritz Hasenpusch, our own "Harp Mic Man" was in a week ago to record seven hours of video footage for the site... all great stuff! These videos will be edited and start flowing onto the site in about two weeks.
I'm new to this wonderful site. I'm making my way through all the interviews to get a feel for where I might fall as far as style and technique. I was amazed when I heard that John Nemeth used the underside of his tongue to tongue block. I've always done that and was discouraged when I learned that i was doing it wrong. But this encouraged me to know that if it works, don't fix it! It helps to hear all of these interviews and get opinions on different techniques and how each player approaches his craft. I do think you need a woman in there. continue reading...
I hope it won't p*** anybody off from outside the UK to read an irrelevant post (!) but I'm wondering if there are other UK members on the site? continue reading...
I have several of his CD' and last night had the chance to see him live in Victoria BC. What a show!!! Small venue (sold out with about 120) and did he perform. Absolutely wicked tone and articulation that is performed at incredible speed. He opened with Amazing Grace on is own and did an amazing job - loved his 'drone' effect- I've only heard Joe Filisko do this. Then the band joined him for an exciting eclectic couple of sets. Two standing ovations which were well deserved. And a nice guy to boot!!
In this section David talks about reviewing "the pull in Gary's blues." Where is this to review? This seems like new material/technique, but it is unfamiliar to me. Am I missing something?
