About submitting study material

Posted Thu, 02/12/2026 - 07:34 by Els

Hello David,

On the site it says: There is a testing fee for the full LOA program, but keep in mind that you’re always welcome to submit study material to me (David Barrett) at no cost… it’s part of your subscription and I’m here to help

After two years of study I have arrived at  the end of level six without ever doing that. Could I submit a recording concerning level six or should I have done that  from level 1?

Thanks for alle the wonderfull lessons anyway,

love to hear from you,

Best regards,

Els Rensink, Holland

LOA 4 - Accompaniment Playing Study 4

Posted Tue, 02/10/2026 - 15:08 by sparkyburp

Hi David,

I am attempting to get some backing rhythms and fills together to accompany 'I Want You With Me'. No problem with the rhythms for backing the vocals as it's straightforward to work out the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes for each of the I, IV and V chords. I am struggling to understand what notes are 'allowed' for the fills. Should I be playing only notes from a specific scale or does anything count as long as it sounds right?

Thanks,

Mark.

For LOA 4, can you please clarify what scale I should be practicing? Is it just the C Major, or also the C Major Pentatonic, Blues, etc.

Dry Lips Sticking to Harp

Dave,

I am (still) working on Level 4 and have a question that came up while practicing Ex. 2.1 and 2.2 in Solo Harmonica Study 2 Bass Lines. I find that my lips get so dry that they stick to the harp making it tricky to change positions. I think the chord pulls are causing the dryness. Any suggestions that might help me work through this?

Reed squeal while bending the third hole

Posted Tue, 01/13/2026 - 21:16 by jingzhouhao

Hi, I am a beginner practicing bending but whenever I bend the 3rd hole to a certain depth, the reed always squeal and makes a metal scraping like sound. I attached the soundcloud links when I bend on A harmonica and C harmonica, starting from the 4th to the 1st hole. For both A and C harmonica, the squeal happened on the 3rd hole. I tried to draw with less force but it didn't help. Could anyone give suggestion? Thanks!

breathing

hello

some people on youtube can push air through harmonica for minutes(or pull-making draw sound last very long). how to do it, please? I am working on my bends now and noticed that my draw sounds last longer while trying to bend compering to basic draw( tongue flat in mouth). this battle about breathe drains me , makes training sessions much shorter.

as to sending u recordings- is it free with my membership please

regards Robert

wa sound

I can't seem to hold the harmonica correctly to get the wa sound. Would it ever be because I have smaller hands? The entire back of the harmonica doesn't need to be covered correct?
