I'm new here. I play a little piano (still learning) and always wanted to learn harmonica as well. I went to a musical instrument store to enquire and was shown a selection of harmonicas. As I was brand new to the instrument, he referenced a collection of Hohners and informed me it was best to have a couple of different ones to start on. I was given the "Old Standby" in C, informed that it was the most versatile one to have and was also given "The Big River Harp" in G which would be a good one to learn on. David, if the G blues scale drops the 2nd and 6th scale degree why do we include the 6 draw A and 6' flated Ab?  Confused?  Thx.

Is is normal that I feel that shakes 3-4 should be played somewhat differently?

When playing (draw) 4-5 or 5-6 both notes seem balanced. But for 3-4, 4 seems more "prominent", and I have to put "less 4" to feel it balanced. I keep this feeling for all harmonicas.

Is it something known? or maybe can it be a hint of a problem?

When getting to the left of the harmonica, the left corner can get more in the mouth, and I close a bit more my lips to avoid air leaking. Maybe this causes some dissymetry, and I don't know if it's a bad thing. continue reading...
