I was going to entitle this something like, "What's the weirdest harp in your kit?," but then figured that maybe it's a weird one that is actually a useful favorite. So instead:
If your house was on fire, and your spouse, one of the firefighters, your dog, or whomever, told you that you had to leave one harmonica in the house and let it go up in smoke, which harp would you leave behind? continue reading...
I've passed through one more phase of "I'm not making any progress and never will. I just can't do this" thinking. followebd by " I'm putting it down forever" (not for the first time I'vce passed though this same tunnel of dark
but then a harmonica plays in soime song in my radio and I think "Yeah, I can do this a little bit. I'll never be a buddy greene or david barret and that's ok too" soi I return to try again...one more time. continue reading...
Aki Kumar interviewed in Blues Blast online magazine. He's featured on the cover with a long interview, praising David Barrett in the interview too. Check it out!
I started out with a Marine Band classic in C, jumpted to a Manji in A, then to Special 20s in G, A, and C where I stayed for about a year until jumping to the Rocket. I liked them so much I eventually bougth a 1/2 set. Still, the Gear Acquisition Syndrome kicked in and I've decided to start buying other harps every now and then to test and see what's out there. Today's latest acquisition is the Les Oskar in A. continue reading...
Don't know if this has been posted before, but here's a great article about Hohner Marine Bands, their decline in quality, the company's near bankruptcy, the automation of the 90's, and ultimate return to quality, hand-crafted production. Lee Oskar, Joe Filisko and Kinya Pollard feature prominently in the article as well. Although centered on Hohner and the Marine Band line, it's really a great article about harmonicas during the Rock age and after the golden age of Blues. continue reading...
I'm looking for a case for my Hohner Special 20 harmonicas so I don't have to deal with a bunch of individual boxes. I currently have four, and recently ordered a Hohner Flex Case M but it transferred such a terrible taste to my harmonicas that I've returned it. If it weren't for the odor/taste issue, the Hohner case was perfect: not too large, soft-sided, 7 slots.
I'm currently working hard at level 4 loa, and have been making good progress, I've even thrown chromatic into the mix. I have been working on the study songs but suddenly couldn't get the bends, especially on the strut, despite being able to do them. Arrgh how frustrating!
I went back to basics, watched David do it which made me realise that I wasn't doing it quite right, so after two 1 1/2 hour sessions dedicated solely to the 4/5 double bend on the strut, I'm getting there.
Hello, all. Try as I might, I really have not been able to correctly ID key signatures. This is impeding my playing a bit as I find I must rely on formal backing tracks that state the key signature in the title. I came accross this site and it seems pretty accutrate. I dropped several songs into it including backing tracks for which I knew the key in advance and it hasn't failed in any of these. Do you guys have any thoughts or opinions on this?
Also, given that it seems to be free I wonder what their angle is.
