Blues for big nate

Hi to all!

While ending level 3 achievement I wanted to share with you my version of the artist's study song "blues for big nate". It has been a good challenging work, trying to imitate the full sound of the original version. I created a new chorus to fit the jam track and used the David's suggested chorus for ending the song. I hope you enjoy and your comments will be well accepted to better my skills.

I had been working on this for a while prior David's Tip of the Day commentary...... which really helped lock it in. I'm working on my vocals too :^)) haha might as well be ordinary at two things I recon!

Backing track: Shoblues Vol 4 Walters key to the Highway.

Telephone Blues Take 1

Posted Wed, 04/02/2014 - 21:33 by Julian Conrad

Inspired by George Harmonica Smith, this instrumental experiment borrows on several cover versions including the GHS version 1955. It's been an interesting journey and now feel I have plateaued out, so thought I might benchmark it here and revisit it in a years time or so. I hope you like it and welcome your comments........ cheers Julian

The backing track is from Shoblues Vol 4 "Standing By My Telephone"

Black Jack in the key of D

Posted Thu, 03/27/2014 - 14:23 by Super_Dave

This was a version of Ray charles' Black Jack done in the key of D at a local blues jam.

I played very sparsely but I feel that I played to the mood of the song.

It was my first time forcing myself to only tongue block during a live performance so I was pretty nervous.

Please let me know what you think about it.

Thanks,

Super Dave

Blues in the Dark

I couldn't find a good jam track for this.  "Blues in the Dark" is a Swing (ii V I chords in bars 9-11) with a quick change (IV chord on bar 2), but at a slower tempo than most swing jam tracks.  So I used a shuffle, at the right tempo, but it's a standard 12 bar (IV V I in bars 9-11, no quick change).  In spite of that it kind a sort a works.

Anyway it's a great tune and lots of fun to work on.  I hope to play it with a band (with the right chord progression) at some point.

Of course is is based on David's artisit's study of Jerry Portnoy's song. Having failed to find backtrack in E,  I used a backtrack "Quarter to Midnight" from http://www.bluesharptracks.com/ in a key of F, so my harp is in Bb. I am open to your ctitique.

This is an original song we jammed into existence and recorded live in my living room...not  blues but does have harp choruses and accompaniment playing (which is hopefully more tasteful than intrusive)...any comments on the song or playing would be nice...feedback is good...
