Tuesday Blues

This is a recording my trio has done of a great song by top UK blues combo Paul Lamb and the King Snakes. The essence of the song is the same although my harp playing is only an interpretation of Paul's exceptional acoustic tone and skill! There's plenty of octave work and it comes out as a laid back blues, almost happy in it's groove, which is at odds with the lyrics but somehow seems to work well! continue reading...

Grab Bag of Groove

A 'jam' piece I recorded for 'HarmonicaJam.com'. Definitely not blues but uses Blues form and chords and I definitely try to use a lot of techniques that I've learned on this site. Some 'rushed licks' but its not meant to be a polished performance - one take with a 'good enough' attitude before posting. I feel you don't get a chance to redo a part or a song over at a jam so I try to separate 'jam' numbers from 'performance' numbers where I go back and correct mistakes before the final posting. Right or wrong attitude?????????

Chicken Shack performed by fellow BluesHamonica.com & School of the Blues Student Ed Gootman

This is the song he's planning to play at the upcomming student concert. I showed him the basics of Audacity today & uploaded it here. Hopefully we'll hear more uploads from Ed's account in the future

This is what he laid down on 1-30-15.

Practicing with Riffstation 3

Finally I filled in the quieted/muted guitar phrases with me trying to learn the chicken scratch lick on harp.

First try with the software, but I'm happy it for creating personalized jam tracks. :-)

Spoonful

Hey blues harmonica buddies! Sorry if it feels like Rob Fraser overload but I'm on a creative roll and wanted to share the latest tune from my trio! Paying homage to the Wolf and playing 3rd pos improv over a one chord groove. Messed around with it for a bit and went for a harp/ bass call and response feel with the solo. My 3rd position is a bit limited so good to work on that and it's one of those that will probably sound different every time. Comments appreciated!

Kansas City in 3rd Position - Version 2

Here's my 2nd version of "Kansas City" in preparation for the SOB Student Concert.

I'll pick my favorite things from each version I do & mesh them together by student concert time.

BYW

These postings are simple my way of getting reps in. It's also revealing hearing how actually sound on tape, rather than how I think sound from behind the harp. That's the reason I'm not using any effects. The hope is to fine tune the song & my harp tone & textures. continue reading...
