The Bottle Tree

Sonny Terry is probably the first harmonicaplayer that caught my attention but he's never been a big influence on my playing. I tried to play an original song based on Terry's style. I didn't do any whoops that Sonny Terry use to do, simply because I'm not very good at it..

played in 2nd position on Hohner Crossover in A

Chitlins Con Carne

Recorded live, my guitarist, I feel does an excellent job on this but he thought it needed the harp. I had played it in the past strictly Junior Wells style so to keep this a guitar featured song I put two somewhat short solo's in the song hope you like it. Thanks

Inspired by Jerry"Boogie"McCain's recording of Steady except I have turnarounds
in this recording.Recorded on my 66 Princeton [non reverb] with a 12in 64 Jensen c12r speaker and used a JT30 mic. it was a one take in the moment recording.

Hello!
This is what I did with Steve Baker's "Feelgood Thrash".
For the first time I blew harmonica in March 2011, I was 44 then. I had had no musical experience before that time.
I'm open to any critique, comments and remarks.

Smokestack Lightning

My trio's take on a classic- the harp is VERY minimal- less is more sometimes!

I wanted to share this because I really dig the vibe of guitar and vocals on it. Every time I listen to the recording I am impressed with the way my mate Ian pays homage to Howlin' Wolf without trying to emulate the inimitable gritty vocals and puts his own feel on the lyrics. I also love the way that the sway of the track shifts subtly throughout (Ian said he lost his way a bit but I reckon that Gary on guitar adjusts to fill the gaps and leave the right spaces just perfectly- very atmospheric!). continue reading...

You Dogged Me

This is a cover of a Mitch Kashmar number (assuming his version is not itself a cover). Mitch does this one in a sort of Jimmy Reed style but we couldn't seem to get that groove down, which was my initial intention, so we ended up putting a different spin on it. continue reading...

Kind Hearted Woman Accompaniment

Got asked to play with a guitar player/vocalist friend at an acoustic gig - man, what a difference to the electric jams I'm used to. This is what we ended up with on this Robert Johnson tune. Needless to say the comping is what I am getting out of David's accompaniment lessons. Hopefully doing them justice!
