RESONANCE CHAMBER

Singers, both aspiring and experienced, know that the best vocal sounds are produced from vibrations within the respiratory system, vocal cords, and nasal cavities. These vibrations resonate within a chamber created by the body to produce beautiful sounds.

If you want to feel this resonance chamber in action, try holding your nose while singing or speaking; you should be able to feel vibrations in your head.

The harmonica operates in a similar way. A lone harmonica reed produces very little sound; the instrument's rich tone is created by the player's resonance chamber. This chamber is formed by many elements, including warm diaphragmatic breathing, positioning the harmonica deep in the mouth, and cupping the hands around the instrument.

Your favorite harmonica player likely positions the harmonica so deep in their mouth that it looks like they are swallowing it!

The BabyFat and Big Six harmonicas are a great way to experience shaping your own resonance chamber and maximizing the instrument's tone.
