Answer

Nothing has been changed on this amp. It's either a 1967 or 1972 (some discrepancy in the date codes). I have a 5U4 rectifier, 6L6 power tubes and all the rest of the tubes are 12AX7's.

In my princeton the rectifier

In my princeton the rectifier is a GZ34 and one of the pre-amp tubes is a so-called 7o2s next to a standard 12ax7.

I have to mention my princeton doesn't have a reverb, it's just an edition with only the vibro-function.

Would it make any difference to replace the rectifier and replace the 7o2s with another 12ax7?

Answer

If I'm correct, the GZ34 is the same as a 5AR4. If you're looking for more sag... more distortion at a lower volume... then try the 5U4. I use all 12AX7's because I wanted more volume... less sag... out of that amp. I like this amp to be a little cleaner in tone, since I have other amps that are more distorted. Try the 5U4, it's cheap and easy to experiment with. I'm not familiar with "7o2s".
