Hi Dave.

When practicing T.B. Study 1 Ex 1.2 Standard Tongue Block. Do I use ( H.U.L.) on every + note ? and witch way do I go T.B. + 6 ( H.U.L. ) on the left or T,B. H.U.L on the right? I am covering just 7 or both 7 & 8 or just move the tongue there w/ no H.U.L.

Thank You

Answer

"HAL" is used to describe the mechanics of the slap. In Study 1 there are no slaps (that's Study 2).

The "+" sign is used to denote a blow note... no "+" means to draw.

When you do use slaps your tongue stays to the right. For example, when you play a 4+ (4 blow) and you want to slap it, you start by sounding all four holes (1 through 4 blow) and the slap your tongue down to cover holes 1 through 3... you're left with the 4+ sounding.

Did that answer your questions?

David
