Hi Kinya,

While trying to gap my one and two blow reed on my 270 Deluxe I messed up the wind savers on the reeds next to them. The perforated wind saver is basically flat (a littler twisted but laying down) and the top one is up a bit. Any way to correct without replacing?

Also, the 6 blow gives me a rattle  sometimes and a dampend sound on that note that I think is the wind saver but happens intermittently. Its not there at all with the covers off. I tried with the covers on and loosened the screws and that seemed to help but it still occured after some time playing. Any Idea?  I tried cleaning the windsaver but no go and the thing that gets me is there is no issue with the covers off???

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark, Good to hear from

Hi Mark, Good to hear from you.

Well first off, that's why most of us play diatonic harmonicas--NO WINDSAVERS! Just messin' around with you Mark ... I think the chormatic harmonica is a wonderful piece of engineering ... except those damn wind savers ;o)

Regarding the bent windsavers, review my Thu, 01/01/2015 - 15:16 posting. Here I instruct you how to "iron" your wind saver flat (smooth out the crease). While you're at it, search the Forum archives (using the search engine) for: WIND SAVERS.

Don't forget to check out the interview David had with Anneliese "Sissi" Jones (formerly Chromatic Technician with Hohner USA).

If none of the techniques remedy the problems, you will have to remove and replace the damaged and/or pesky windsaver, I recommend you try those offered by Seydel Harmonica Company (P.T. Gazell contributed to their development). You will have to scrap off the old cement and reapply PLIOBOND, marketed by W.J. Ruscoe Company.

Your Harpsmith, Kinya
