Wow - in looking for the lyrics for this one, I discovered there's a lot of songs with the same or a similar name - some of which are "interesting" to say the least. I'm trying to find the lyrics for William Clarke's version so if anyone can help me out or point me in a direction, it would be much appreciated. I've bought the song and have the YouTube URL for his video.

Thanks in advance

Lollipop Mama - William Clarke

Hi Hank, I used to work out a lot of old blues lyrics, so I had a crack it this one for you.

Lollipop Mama - William Clarke

I got a big fat Momma, she call me her lollipop

Got a big fat Momma, she call me her lollipop

When she start lovin', she never know when to stop

She a hot lovin’ Momma, she love me both night and day

She a hot lovin’ Momma, she love me both night and day

Well I'm so scared my lollipop gonna melt away

She shake like jelly, jelly don’t shake it self
Well she shake like jelly, it don’t shake it self
She shake for me and shake for nobody else

Well we rock every morning, and rock every midnight too
Well we rock every morning, and every midnight too
I don’t want a complain because she might snuff out too

(solo)

She a real strong Mama, lay steal on a railroad track

Well a real strong Mama, lay steal on a railroad track

Gotta hug like a bear, she almost break my back

I said slow down baby, Darlin' you hurtin' me

Well slow down baby, Darlin' you hurtin' me
I feel so good from my head down to my feet

(solo)

"Stop if i do"

G'day Hank and Troy.

the "snuff out too" bothered me...but i just couldnt hear what William sang. Eventually i found something i could hear and made sense to me. i went back to William's version and listened out for "stop if i do". i'm convinced.

i also think its nice that i heard it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu3xvifMJKQ

on the way to finding this i also listened to Wynonie Harris' version and also clarence samuels' (both from 1947 i think)
actually i couldnt find a free listen to the entire Clarence Samuels track, but enough to confirm its the same song. Wynonie Harris is on youtube though. there are a couple of small differences but overwhelmingly the same. one of the differences is in this verse though, where the words are slightly rearranged so the rhyme is on "night". If the verse form is "AAB", the B part is "i"m scared to complain i know that woman will start a fight"

a bit of a tangent , but, wow it is such a lewd song though...that line 'shakes like jelly and jelly dont shake itself'...Harris particularly leaves you in no doubt what he's talking about, just with vocal inflection...i'm really pleased i went on the hunt just because i discovered Wynonie Harris. i dont aspire to his kind of salacious act, but the vocal with intent...conveying the meaning through the inflection..thats something to stay aware of...its too easy to just sing the words and focus on the musicality and forget they are words which have meaning...that the songs are about something...the guitarist in my band is quite good about this sort of stuff...when we discuss arrangements he will often ask me what the song means to me, whether i have ever been in such and such a situation..i think it helps..

Good One Dave

Thanks Dave - He does a good job and is very kind in sharing. I got his "Help Me" a while back and it really helped. This will as well. Backing track is mentioned in the title. He did provide one with Help Me - any idea where to find one for Lollipop Mama? Oops - just found it and now have to search for the zip file he mentions. (edit) got it!!!

The more I explore Blues songs, especially the older ones' the more I realize how linked to sexual innuendo (subtle and not so subtle) many of them are!!
