David, this might be a personal choice, but what lesson would you suggest that a student think about getting a microphone? I am completing the Temperature lesson.

I probably will get the Hohner Blues Blaster. I have these harmonicas.

Marine Band C
Marine Band Special 20 A and G.

I know the Strut uses the D Harmonica and later on I might pick up another Special 20 C.
I don't know if your lessons require a C Harmonica.

I am on a tight budget but I could get the Microphone first and then get the next Harmonica.

Any guidance or is it my choice.

Your guidance is always appreciated. I really like the Rhumba lesson using the G Harmonica.

Go for the harps first... the goal is to get a set of these keys: G, A, B-flat, C and D... with the Low-F being a cool last option. After that you'll fill in the keys of harmonica as needed (as you come across songs that you like in the world of harmonica). In regards to when it's a good time to be a mic and amp?... any time now... there's no "right time." Have a great holiday.

Harmonicas and/Or Mic Plus.....

I wanted to add this comment. The Solo Harmonica series is great for a morning workout. It really works the tongue muscles and the rhythm and tempo. It also helps pinpoint accuracy on single holes and all the technique that we have learned so far. I can play this stuff for hours. Good job, David. It's all fun.

Glad you like it. It's important to study the Solo Harmonica (self-accompanied) material along with the Study Songs (band)... this works both skill sets.

The Crossover Low F is called the "Thunderbird" and is in stock at www.musiciansfriend.com (don't get the super low F, just the Low F). The Special 20 is a special order.

Harp differences

Thank you kindly for the response to finding a LOW F.

Tell me the big difference between the CROSSOVER price of $65 and the THUNERBIRD low price of $125.
What call you tell me about the difference in price? The low F special 20 is $37 or so... that's 3 of them to one
Thunderbird....in your vauled opinion is it worth the price? etc.

Answer

They don't make a Crossover in the Low-F. Once the keys go to Low-F they become the Thunderbird model and there are some changes in the reed profiles and coverplates to accommodate the lower reeds. The Special 20 does the job just fine, the Thunderbird is just a higher-level, better-adjusted harmonica with more projection. Generally speaking... if you like the feel and sound of the Special 20, stay with that... if you like the sound and feel of the Crossover, go with the Thunderbird.
