Hi David,

I watched the Performance series on openings and endings and breaks and I wanna jam one time with walter's boogie, but I can't figure out the opening, wonder if you could shed some light about this type of opening.

Thanks,

Kobi

Sure. Walter plays 8 bars and

Sure. Walter plays 8 bars and then the band comes in on the I, the beginning of the 12 Bar Blues Form. Note that there's a hit on the 9+. If you want the band to play that hit you'll need to signal it.

Here's what I would say to the band...

"E. Shuffle. I'll play an 8 bar into and then you come in on the I (one), NOT the IV. There's a hit in the opening, watch me for it."

The band will want to come in with a IV Chord... it feels like it wants to go to the IV, so just be aware of that.

Good luck!

Awesome! I did count 8 bars

Awesome! I did count 8 bars but did not know where they are at at the 12 bar "scheme", are they even? my first instinct was to think that he starts his intro on the IV chord and then the V, but on the IV he starts on draw 4 and goes to draw 5, back again and then to the 5+ and 6+ blows, so it's like the other way around chord-wise or something like that, cause the 4/5 draw fit the I/V chord and the blows fit the IV right? got me all confused, can you expand a bit on that if you may? really helpful :D

thank you very much

You don't have to define it

You don't have to define it in respect to chords since he's playing by himself, but if you want to, it's would be 8 bars of the I7 Chord, he plays the holes (3 pickup) 4-flutter, 5-flutter, repeat, 6+-flutter, 7-flutter, 9+ 9 8 9 8 7 6 6+ 5 4 3 which are all notes of the I7 Chord (G B D F relative to a C Harmonica... the 6 A is a passing tone between 7 B and 6+ G).
