What to do with tongue when going one whole further up the harp in exercise 1
Hi David,
as I am working on Exercise 1 (tongue blocking), I wonder what to do with my tongue when going one hole further up or down the harp. Do I take the tongue completely off the harp, or do I just release some pressure and "slide" to the next holes?
Thanks in advance, Peter
Thank you for the clarification Peter.
In that exercise your mouth surrounds four holes and your tongue blocks the three holes to the left. When going above hole 6, your embouchure stays the same, all the way up to hole 10.
So, to be clear, this is your default embouchure for playing notes on the harmonica... just sliding right or left to achieve a single note.
When playing hole 3, your embouchure moves left and your tongue is blocks holes 2, 1, and the wood (your embouchure does not change).
For hole 2, you narrow your mouth a little and your tongue covers holes 1 and the wood to the left.
For hole 1, there are three options, of which you'll learn in Tongue Blocking Study 1 (your next study).
Hello Peter. Is this the Ex. 1 you're speaking of? (https://www.bluesharmonica.com/sites/bluesharmonica.com/files/private/to...)
