Hello Fritz,
I really enjoyed your interview with David. I have a question. I am getting my new Wezo 45 head and 2x10 cabinet this week. I have a Custom 1950s Turner +2 with a Controlled Magnetic element, volume control..
I opened it up and it says...Shure Brothers Inc...Controlled Magnetic...Model Number is red but totally faded out and cant read it....does this mean it is a vintage element? I noticed the mic does not have any packing in the back.
I purchased it from Sonny Onofrio for a Sonny Jr 1 amp...
Do you think this is the best mic for my new Wezo? I am a new student with David.
Thank you!
Steve

This is a vintage element and will sound good with your amp. If you haven't already ordered one, get a delay pedal (Dan Echo or one from Lone Wolf) for it... it's nice to have some echo to take the rough edges off!

Answer

Settings are the same. It doesn't matter which amp you use.

WEZO MI MUCHO...

STEVE! WE'RE NEIGHBORS! You should come visit THE MIC DUNGEON (Bring a note from your parents). WEZO. Yep, it's a monster! Built like an M-1, handles like a Lamborghini. As David knows, it's an excellent match for the CM's capabilities.
The CM element you're describing... IF the magical words "MADE IN USA" are printed on the element's fabric label it was likely assembled before the production line was shipped to Mexico (Thanx, NAFTA). A looser interpretation of "vintage" would include ALL CM elements whether USA or Mexican, as they've been out of production for many years now... Remember, there are good, bad, and ugly CM's from all periods of production.
As for your mic: Take a look at the potentiometer and see if you can discern what its impedance is rated at. Should be marked on the "can"... 100K is a good nominal operative target for the CM. Make certain there's a good front-to-back gasket seal around the element, preventing leakage from the back compartment to the outside world. "Packing" (cotton batting, excelsior) is an option that may be employed if you sense that standing waves or resonant frequencies are a problem with your mic -particularly at paint-peeling volume levels. HONK ON!

Fritz I had no idea you were here! Of course, only the finest live in this pretty city. Yes, It does say Made in USA and is sealed with some sort of caulking material...I could find no other markings denoting impedance...it wasnt cheap so I hope its a good un.
I will plan to visit you soon...Thank you!
