I understand that we are practicing tongue switching but would it be wrong to just continue to tongue block out the left side and slide to the right for the 2 blow and then back to the left still Tb'ing out the left for the 1 draw again? I've been practicing the way you describe and can play it fine that way but just thinking for this passage that it would be less movement of the tongue.
Are there times when one might TB right and left besides only the 1 hole?

Thanks 528hemi

Yes...

If it works for you, go ahead... no 100% rules here. The negative is that you can't use slaps or pulls when you go to hole 2 if you do it that way... the chord will be to the right (higher)... you'll understand more of what I mean when you study "Gary's Blues."

Thanks David I understand

Thanks David

I understand perfectly. Might as well continue to do it the way you describe as it is building on better technique as you mention above. Once I learn it taht way then I can improvise as I choose.

I have 2 other questions referring to Solo harmonica Study 1.

1) Is exercise 1.1 and 1.3 single notes designed mainly to learn the rhythm ( chording ) for 1.2 and 1.4 or did you also include it to be used to strenthen tongue switching?

2) Bass Rhythm 2.8 bending 3 draw then moving to 3 draw unbent. Ultimately I assume if you can TB bend then you should do that and then move to the 3 draw unbent TB'ed but if I intend to lip purse my bends( been a lip purses for 1 year and can bend fine lip pursing) for now until I can Tb bend, Would I want to lip purse bend and then move right back to the TB for the 3 draw unbent and then TB the 5 draw or would you suggest to bend the 3 draw and stay lip pursed for the 3 unbent and then move to 5 draw Tb'ed? Is the answer here again there is not a 100 percent rule.

Thanks Again

Answers

1) Designed for you to hear the melody before being turned into chords

2) Pucker both 3' and 3, then switch to TB. Try a TB bend on the 3... you may be surprised that a 3' is not that hard... try "Key" are of the mouth for the bend.
