Volume Pedal Suggestions?

Anyone have any suggestions for a volume pedal? I am playing with an Lone Wolf Harp Attack direct into PA, and a Lone Wolf delay is coming in the mail.

Ideally, I want to set up a board with those two pedals following my signal coming from a wireless. I need a quick way to jump up over the band, as I play at jams where the guitars start to drown me out over a few songs.

I imagine I will lose some tone by doing this. Any suggestion or advice is appreciated.

volume pedal

HI Sach

I've tried a guitar booster pedal or two but found that they tipped me beyond what was already nearing my top possible volume into feedback territory.

I have a LW delay and Harp Commander Jr in my chain and these work to good effect when the band is at a reasonable volume.

I've just got a LW octave pedal and will be test driving it at a band rehearsal tonight and a gig tomorrow. I've only had it a couple of days and I'm still figuring out its capabilities but one suggestion on the LW forum is to put the effect knob low (position 9-11 o clock on the dial) and the level quite high (about 3 o clock), the idea being to provide a small amount of the pedal effect whilst offering a decent volume boost. I've tried this at home and it looks like a goer. I'll let you know how it goes after the weekend!

Thanks. I was debating to getting the octave instead of the delay, but i opted for the delay. I would like to know how that turned out.

Why not a VC at the mic

Hi - Why not use one of my volume controls at the mic? You don't have to be standing at your pedal board to use it, which is nice. It will minimize tonal loss as well. Works fine with wireless.

LW octave

Hi Sach

Here's a quick update on the octave pedal. I still haven't explored what different settings will offer with this pedal but at the gig I played on Saturday night it worked very well as a volume boost in the way described above. It was great just to be able to step on the pedal whenever I needed the extra volume. I used it for solos and left it on for the whole of two of our louder rocking numbers. The volume boost was certainly obvious and with the effect set low it sort of filled the amp out in a way which enhanced the boost I was looking for. I'm now keen to test the pedal effect to see how it could be used to give a different tonal quality during a set. From what I've tried so far, the more effect you apply the "crunchier" the sound gets. Hard for me to describe succinctly but it makes my (small Pro Junior) amp sound somehow beefier, to a point, although too much effect seems to make the amp a bit too dirty sounding for my liking.

Anyway, my point is that it works as a volume boost with the right setting and if you are a "pedal to board" player then I think you would probably get some good mileage from the octave in more ways than just that.

Greg's in line control also sounds like a good idea plus you can use it to cut unwanted noise if you stray into a feedback zone on stage... Why not get both!

Thanks for the advice. I just got the LW delay a few days ago, and I love it. The LW Octave is my next purchase!

Greg's Volume Control

I'd seriously look at Greg Heumann's volume control. All the pro players I know either have a volume control as part of their mic or use a volume control similar to Greg's. I have two and they work just like they're supposed to.

Great suggestion. I picked up a volume control from Greg, and it works great.
