Hey FritzY,

I bought a JT30 from a friend and I was wondering how difficult it would be to put in a volume control. Is there anything online like a "do it yourself"?

It's a controled magnetic. He said the element is from the 60's but the shell is older. Does this take away from tone at all? Do you suggest and specific parts for this?

Thanks in advance for an information. Even if its to tell me to go to hell.

Nick

Nick, Hell hath no room for

Nick, Hell hath no room for harp players. Too crowded with politicians and lawyers. As for your JT-30 / volume control install: Take a look at the tools & procedures covered in the segments I'd recorded for this site. There will be several choices to make: Where would you want to install it? What value should it be (CM's like to "see" 100K)? Knob clearance? I would caution you to drill a small pilot hole and then work out to the proper diameter (the potentiometer dictates this) with a tapered ream. You'll want to make certain all soldered connections and groundings are solid. As your looking at the pot with the shaft down and the soldering lugs toward you, the left lug goes to the element; the center lug goes to the mic's output; the right lug is the 'ground'. As for performance, I haven't found any measurable differences between 'full-up' and 'hardwired' -while offering a degree of control unattainable without it.
