Now the "tip of the day" is a great thing and a constant reminder to me of how much there is to learn and keep in mind BUT........ the Video Tips have taken it to another level. To see and hear what you are describing is awesome. Another lesson in how I need to learn to actively listen to music.

And for what its worth - the Feelin' for the Blues presentation is absolutely "sick" - a term I've learned from the young 'uns means awesome!!! that was some demonstration of 3rd, 2nd and 1st position playing Thanks!!

Wonderin'...

David, I notice you have an affectation when you play of closing your eyes throughout the entire performance. I've seen many musicians doing this. We had a guitar player who used to do this in our band. I asked him about it once and he told me he gets freaked out when he sees the crowd in front of him. By then, we were playing bigger venues and I told him: "With the lights, you can only see the first couple of rows, why does it bother you?" He told me he gained the affectation when we played smaller clubs, and it got to be a superstitious habit.

Others I've seen do that say they are focusing on the music, and feel they need to close their eyes to really feel what's going on. But most of those I've seen only do it briefly - especially during complex or especially emotional sections of the music.

Watching your videos, I got to wondering, why do you do it? My curiosity is getting the best of me.

Answer

Those are all valid reasons. There's no reason why I do it... sometimes my eyes are open... sometimes they're shut... it's just what I'm feeling at the moment.
