Hi David...I think I have a basic tremelo working. It's maybe not quite as fast as it could be, but, I am wondering about the vibrato. Should my diaphragm be playing a part in my vibrato, or should I try to isolate the movement more to my throat area? Is the vibrato about trying to get a subtle bend going while doing a tremelo?

Thanks in advance.

Homer.

Answer

No, the diaphragm is not involved in the vibrato process... just breathe. The key elements are that your mouth is tuned to the pitch you're playing and your tongue and throat are relaxed. "Is the vibrato about trying to get a subtle bend going while doing a tremelo?" this can help... as long as you follow the two pieces if advice above. The 3' is a great one to practice it on... then the 4 draw unbent. I'm sure you have already watched it... but watch it again... the video lesson on the vibrato... it's all in there.

P.S., work on it, but give it time... it develops over time.
