The 5 draw on my Hohner Special 20 went very flat overnight.  i played it one day and it was fine, picked it up the next day and the 5 draw was so flat it is matching the 5 blow.

I took the covers and reed plates off but did not see anythng obvious.

What do think?

Thanks

Hi Vid, this is very common

Hi Vid, this is very common for the diatonic harmonica. Many Harp Techs report replacing the 5 draw reed more than others. The reason for this, is because the Blow 5 (e.g. E note), and Draw 5 (e.g. F note), are naturally a half step from each other--meaning there are no bent notes available in hole 5 (no matter how hard we try to conjure up a new note ;o) Many players don't know this (or forget), and will over stress the 5 reed.

Plink the 5 draw reed a dozen times and the reed will break near the reed base. It has a hairline fracture.

Thanks for your response.  Where can I get a replacement reed?
