Using a C harp instead of an A harp

In Solo Harmonica 1 it says use an A harmonica.  I have and A harp but it just isn't a good harp. Could I use my C harmonica to do the lessons  without problems? I know it will not sound like the A harp, but is it going to sound acceptable? And will it hinder my learning?
