I play as a hobby on my own, so while I'd like an amp, I don't want to spend a lot of money. I've been keeping an eye out for used amps at music stores and antique shops, but I'm not 100% sure what qualities I should be looking for.

In general, my rule of thumb that I read somewhere has been: a tube amp with single-didgit watts and single-didgit inch measurement for the speaker cone. So a five-watt tube amp with an 8-inch speaker, for example.

Does anybody have thoughts about those criteria, or other qualities I should keep in mind when looking around?

Thanks much!

Custom Bassman amp

I recently bought a custom built Bassman that is modified and sound really good but the cabinet has some design flaws. The bottom speaker are angled up toward the player. He explaned to me that he intentionally made it this way so you could here yourself better on the band stand. My thinking is perhaps the cabinet was just built to small. The gentleman that slod it to me is a friend and a great guy. I think all I have to do is swap out the cabinet. Here is the link to were you can see the amp.

Question: does any one have a cabinet I could buy for this amp. Thanks.
