Hi, Dave,

Working on Gary’s Blues, I had to trash my vintage 1970’s Hohner Blues Harp (broken 5 draw reed). My backup is a cheaper Hohner, but I’m thinking that in the long run, I’ll need to upgrade. I find the Marine Band a little easier to bend with a slightly better sound than the Special 20. I read Kinya Pollard’s forum posting (2/10/2010) about the 3 Marine Band models, so I’m thinking maybe I’d spend a few extra bucks for the MB Deluxe. If you could, please let me know which key(s) would be most useful for my upcoming studies in Levels 4, 5 and 6? I’d like to take the upgrading process a step at a time, if I can.

Thanks, Dave.

Hello Jerry. Yes, that's a great model. If you're not able to find that one, the Crossover is the way to go. Here is the set of harmonicas you'll need over time... listed from lowest to highest in key. The Low-F is the last key you'll need (Hohner Thunderbird), so that can wait a bit if you want.

Low-F, G, A, Bb, C, D

Upgrading Further Question

Dave.

After the key of A, and looking forward to what will hopefully be my days playing with other musicians, which key would you suggest is the most useful for blues in 2d position? Would it be D, G, C or soomethiing else?

Hello Jerry. The list I gave you are the most common keys when jamming with others. All but the Low-F will be used for LOA-L4.
